My good friend Patrick Sudds forwarded me an email this morning about a violent crime near Eastern Michigan University that the media - at least right now - is ignoring.
Based on the email, we know that there is an undescribed gunman on the loose who shot an unidentified victim multiple times less than a mile away from the campus. If you look at the above map, the approximate location of the incident is just north of Huron River Dr. on the other side of the river.
A little bit of digging uncovered that this same block where last night's incident occurred is also near where EMU football player Demarius Reed was shot and killed in 2013.
Interestingly enough, no media hysterics have broken out as of yet - mainly because there is nothing "newsworthy" about this garden variety shooting campus-adjacent.

The victim, a male non-EMU student, was found with multiple gunshot wounds and was transported to the hospital for treatment.
Officers checked the area, but were unable to locate a suspect. Suspect description is under investigation. Please report any information regarding this incident to the Ypsilanti Police Department at (734) 483-9510.
Isn't it amazing how a half-mile of arbitrary distance is the difference between a media whirlwind and radio silence? Where are the gun control activists decrying the lack of public safety near Eastern Michigan University?
It is hypocrisy like this that drives people batty. Interest groups stay away from the ho-hum because that doesn't further "the cause". Media declines to report the garden variety because it doesn't further their bottom line.
Every life is supposed to matter - not just the ones that make the headlines.
